Stories about punk music tend to picture thin-framed white guys and girls with shaved heads, part of an angry, energetic scene born out of the working class angst of young white England in the 1970s. But the actual history of punk – as a type of music and movement – is more complicated than that.
Black punks have been an integral and pioneering part of punk history – and they're keeping the movement alive and growing today. Host Sana Saeed explores that history and talks to proto-punk band Death, musician and journalist Greg Tate, the band The 1865 and festival organizer Shawna Shawnté.

For most people, working for a game developer likely sounds pretty cool. You get to bring the games that gave you so much joy to millions of people around the world. But, while the job looks fun from the outside, in reality, being a game developer is actually quite rough. For one, game companies are usually able to get away with paying game developers significantly less than market wages. Similarly, game developers generally end up working quite a bit more than traditional software engineers. This can mostly be explained by the fact that most people who become game developers do it out of passion. So, game companies are able to abuse this passion to milk out the most amount of work. This situation is only made worse by the fact that game development skills aren’t easily transferable to traditional tech companies. So, many developers often end up getting trapped within the gaming industry. This video explains the pros and cons of being a game developer and how game developers end up getting ripped off by game companies.

How The US Government Destroyed Black Families (Documentary)It’s no secret. Fatherless households are more common in the Black community. A survey from the American consensus institution revealed that 67% of Black children under 18 in the U.S. live in homes without fathers. This is a stark contrast to White children, as only 24% of them live in fatherless homes. But it wasn’t always like that. The black family survived generations of open racism, widespread poverty, and slavery. They lived through segregation and violence. And strong family bonds used to be the norm. Between 1890 and 1950, the marriage rate was much higher among black women than white women. A fraction of black children lived in homes without their fathers. But everything changed with the expansion of the welfare state. This is how the US government destroyed black families.
